At that time the Hurricane Hugo had destroyed the only available Olympic size pool in his home city, Saint Croix. As a high school student, he started playing basketball for St. Dustan’s. Episcopal team. And followed by this he played for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons team in his college career. While he was in the senior year, he got the John Wooden Award and was titled the Naismith College Player of the Year. At the same time, he was also the USBWA College Player of the Year. Duncan was born on the 25th of April 1976 to parents Lone and William Duncans and was born and raised in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. His mother is a professional midwife and on the other hand, his father is a mason. Out of all the children, Duncan is the youngest one. He has one older brother and two younger sisters. His sister is also a swimmer but now works as a nurse. She has won the U.S. Virgin Islands at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Ducan admired his sister and also dreamed of becoming an Olympic-level swimmer.
